'Tea at Five' Extended due to popular demand, performances added February 22nd and 23rd!

"If you're looking for proof positive that local theater has come of age, the extraordinary performance of Noel Desiato in the production of "Tea at Five" at TheatreWorks in New Milford will dispel all doubts." – The Danbury News-Times, January 30, 2008

‘Tea at Five’ Author Visits TheatreWorks
Playwright Matthew Lombardo Attends Opening Performance

On January 25, TheatreWorks New Milford opened Tea at Five ― an intimate and compelling one-woman portrayal of Katharine Hepburn “as told by” the fiery redhead herself. Among those in the nearly sold-out house was the play’s author, Matthew Lombardo.

When the lights went down, Lombardo took the time to meet with Noel Desiato, the Sherman actress charged with bringing Ms. Hepburn to life at age 31 in Act I and at age 75 in Act II.

“This was the first presentation of the play I have seen outside of the original production and national tour,” Lombardo said. “To witness Noel’s fearless interpretation and loyal dedication to the text was perhaps one of the greatest gifts I have received during my entire history with this play.”

“I must say it was a true honor and such a wonderful surprise to realize Matthew Lombardo was in the audience…and for him to be so pleased in the way his work was brought to life,” Desiato said in response.

Tea at Five first debuted at The Hartford Stage Company on February 7, 2002 and subsequently toured the country. The show made its New York premiere on March 9, 2003 at the Promenade Theatre.

Casting Call for
‘Moonlight and Magnolias’

February 4 and 5, 7:00 - 9:00 pm

TheatreWorks New Milford is seeking three men and one woman (ages 30 to 55) for its upcoming production of the funny and fast-paced comedy, Moonlight and Magnolias, by Ron Hutchinson. Auditions are Monday, February 4 and Tuesday, February 5, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at TheatreWorks, 5 Brookside Ave. in New Milford, CT.

Movie producer David O. Selznick has just shut down production on the troubled set of his film Gone With The Wind and locked himself in his office with screenwriter Ben Hecht and director Victor Fleming to rewrite the script because shooting begins in a week and no script exists. This hilarious and fascinating behind-the-scenes story of cinematic history comes to life as the three creative forces clash and compromise for five days straight, wrestling over every detail, from the shape of the plantation pillars to Rhett Butler’s famous final words to Scarlett O’Hara. Moonlight and Magnolias is under the direction of Sonnie Osborne of New Milford.

All roles are available and both professionals and amateurs are welcome. The audition will consist of readings from the script. No appointments are necessary. TheatreWorks offers a stipend to all performers, technicians, and directors. For character breakdowns, to download the audition sides, and for directions, click here.

Rehearsals begin in late February (usually Monday through Thursday evenings) with performances running from April 18 through May 10 on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sunday, May 4.
