Featured Actor — Regan Flynn

A lot of the verve, energy, and laughter of Mrs. Bob Cratchit’s Wild Christmas Binge is sparked by the singular character of The Ghost of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. (Yep. All one character in this version.)

She is indeed the “tour guide” on this twisted version of Dickens’ classic tale. A tour guide who sports an all-pink “Legally Blonde” look one moment, and that of a UPS delivery-ghost the next.

Yet Regan Flynn, the versatile and brilliant actress portraying the three (or is it one?) ghosts, is not a “bleached-blonde bimbo” as Scrooge calls her at one point. In fact, this Prospect resident and recent Drama graduate of The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., is well-versed in the classic drama of Shakespeare, the heavy drama of Harold Pinter, and the universal drama of Thornton Wilder.

So why, and how, does she fit so well into such a comedic role in such a campy play?

“I have been a fan of [playwright] Christopher Durang since college and I loved [director] Beth's concept for the character,” Ms. Flynn said. “So this has been a wonderfully fun role to create. There are many moments when John Taylor (Scrooge) and I don't have any lines and aren't supposed to be seen by the other actors, and we have had to find ways to continue to stay engaged in the action and with each other.”

In the original production of Mrs. Bob Cratchit… at City Theatre in Pittsburgh, the role of the ghost(s) was written for an African-American woman. But, given the outrageous nature of the play, different productions have styled her (or him) differently. And the TheatreWorks production is no exception. The TheatreWorks ghost(s) was fashioned from the minds of director Beth Bonnabeau-Harding and the talented Ms. Flynn.

This is Ms. Flynn’s first foray onto the TheatreWorks stage and audiences, critics, cast, and crew adore her professionalism and overall comic style. Ms. Flynn seems to be enjoying the experience herself.

“I would echo Beth Bonnabeau-Harding’s suggestion that audience members should ‘check their brains at the door’ when coming to see this show,” Ms. Flynn chuckled. “There is some theatre that is meant to be purely entertaining and this show is just that: silly, ridiculous, over-the-top fun.”

“I have found TheatreWorks to be, without exaggeration, the warmest and welcoming company I have worked with thus far,” Ms. Flynn said. “From the cast to the technical staff to the Board of Directors, everyone has been so kind and I feel very much at home coming to the theatre each night. Also, the commitment demonstrated by so many members of the TheatreWorks community continues to astound me. I think their dedication to this theatre speaks volumes about the kind of environment TheatreWorks has created.”

It says a lot about you, our audience members, when a talented TheatreWorks newcomer like Ms. Flynn has taken notice of your generosity. We hope you are able to return her fulsome praise by coming to see her in one of our three remaining performances and following her and the entire Mrs. Bob Cratchit… cast through a time tunnel of hysterical laughter before January 3rd!

Mrs. Bob Cratchit’s Wild Christmas Binge Extended!
New Shows on January 2nd and 3rd!

Due to incredible demand, and a little inclement weather, TheatreWorks New Milford has added two performances to its production of Mrs. Bob Cratchit’s Wild Christmas Binge ― Christopher Durang’s hilarious parody of “A Christmas Carol” and other Holiday favorites.

The new shows are scheduled for Friday, January 2 and Saturday, January 3, 2009, at 8:00 p.m. Tickets for the new performances can be purchased here or by calling (860) 350-6863.

"Unfortunately, we had to cancel two performances due to bad weather…both of which were sold out,” said TheatreWorks President, Richard Pettibone. “We want to make this wildly popular show available to those who had reserved tickets for our cancelled performances and open it up to those who haven’t yet seen this outrageous holiday production.”

MRS. BOB CRATCHIT’S WILD CHRISTMAS BINGE runs December 31, January 2, and 3. Curtain time is 8:00 p.m. Tickets for all shows, except December 31, are $20.00 for reserved seating.

On New Year’s Eve, December 31, at 8:00 p.m. there will be one gala fundraising performance with hors d'oeuvres and an open bar of wine, beer, and soft drinks. Tickets for this event are $50.
