The Fourth Wall Is Closing Up
Final 2 performances This Weekend; Limited Seats Available!

This weekend marks the final two performances of AR Gurney's charming and sophisticated comedy, The Fourth Wall, at TheatreWorks New Milford.

“Gurney uses the stage to explore, quite comically, our place in the world today,” said TheatreWorks president and the show’s producer, Richard Pettibone of New Milford. “The piece boasts a compelling central idea, one that looks at the power of theater and what it means in our lives, and it all springs from a radical act of interior decorating by an unhappy suburbanite. It does what a good comedy should – provide the laughs but also give you something to ponder on the way home.”

Critics and audiences alike have responded to this witty and colorful production and enjoyed a great night of theatre. Director Sonnie Osborne has elicited memorable performances from her cast who include TheatreWorks regulars, Beth Bonnabeau, Glenn R. Couture, Jonathan Ross, and newcomer LuAnn Leonard. Keeping them all on their cues is stage manager Jacky Saulnier in her backstage TheatreWorks debut.  Kudos also to the technical crew of Scott Wyshynski, Jill Fay, Rob Onorato, and Alexis Ortiz for keeping the lights on and the sound audible. Also a special thanks to our many house volunteers who strive to make your evening as enjoyable, comfortable, and safe.

Finally, we'd like to thank you, our audience, for spreading the word. Every time you buy a ticket or tell a friend about a show you saw here, you’re helping to keep this theatre alive and thriving. And if you haven’t seen The Fourth Wall yet, you still have two more chances. So please don’t wait…the remaining seats are going fast!

WAA TheatreWorks Night a Smashing Success

Great Reasons Why You Should Try TheatreWorks for Your Next Big Event

On Saturday, May 9th, the Washington Art Association held a gala fundraiser at TheatreWorks. The evening began with 100 members and friends of WAA enjoying wine and desserts both in the lobby and out on the deck in perfect temperatures. They were then treated to a performance of TheatreWorks hit comedy, The Fourth Wall, by Roxbury playwright, A.R. Gurney.

The performance was followed by a unique post-performance talk back with the cast members who gave the audience a peek at the theatrical process and the perspective from behind the curtain. The questions ranged from set design to character development and brought laughter when the cast described how a vase that was supposed to shatter in the fireplace instead bounced back onto the stage.

The Washington Art Association (WAA) has a long history of supporting and highlighting the visual arts in the Litchfield County area. They chose this event as an extension of their mission, bringing the experience of outstanding live performance to their friends and members.

Souby Boski, President of the WAA said that she had been aware of the quality of TheatreWorks performances for many years and was surprised that many people in the area were not. She consulted with Kay Abella of the TheatreWorks board and the idea was born of an event that would highlight the Theatre while at the same time raising funds for the Association.

One of the attractions, Boski pointed out, is that the sponsoring organization does not have to create the main event, the theatrical performance. She was delighted with the turnout and the enthusiastic response of the attendees. She called the event “a great success” and said she particularly appreciated how easy it was to work with the Theatre representatives.

TheatreWorks regularly works with organizations to organize fundraisers like the one by the WAA. The organization buys out the house of 110 seats at a considerable discount, then resells the tickets at whatever price they choose, having added value to the event with enhancements of their own choosing. This can include receptions, door prizes, raffles, silent auctions, talks by theatre experts about the play, and talk backs with the cast and director.

Other organizations have used this format not as a fundraiser but to offer something different – a theatrical evening – as a social occasion or a “thank you” for employees, clients, or others associated with their organizations. For more information about sponsoring or co-sponsoring a night at TheatreWorks, contact Kay Abella.

Admission is FREE

On Thursday, May 21, TheatreWorks will present a free staged reading of the classic film, All About Eve, by Joseph Mankiewicz, at 8:00 pm. The reading will begin with a wine and cheese reception.

All About Eve tells the story of Margo Channing, one of the biggest stars on Broadway. But in spite of her unmatched success, she is beginning to show her age – “The Big 4-0.” After a performance one night, she encounters a young woman named Eve Harrington, who claims to be her biggest fan and an aspiring actress. Gradually, Eve insinuates herself into Margo's life ultimately proving that she is nothing but a scheming woman who plans to take from Margo everything she holds dear: her lover, her friends, her stage career, and her fame.
